With 4.1 coming closer to fruition, lets do a deep dive into some of the upcoming game changes. Kitty discussion to come in a following post.

Firelands Raid Delayed

The decision to move Firlands to 4.2 was also motivated by a desire to move away from the “monolithic” content patches World of Warcraft has received recently, towards smaller updates, Brack said.

“Patch 4.1 provides our players with access to the completely redesigned Zul’Aman and Zul’Gurub five-player dungeons, where they’ll be able to experience challenging encounters featuring all-new boss mechanics, obtain updated epic-level loot, and possibly acquire rare mounts.

“One of our long-standing development goals is to release regular content updates for the community to enjoy. These updates are generally focused on introducing specific content, like a new raid or new gameplay features.

“Our plan is to package these features into smaller content updates and to release them as soon as possible, rather than wait and release larger updates more infrequently.

“The previously announced Firelands raid will be part of content update 4.2 which should come soon after 4.1.

Heres the problem with this concept, sure you can make small releases of content to keep the general public happy however it can also be perceived as filler content. ZG/ZA will do nothing for raiding guilds and really is a way to supplement people who dont have access to raid gear. This is the same issue as when Onyxia (and to a lesser extent TOC) was released. Sure it helped a lot of casual players and a lot of alts but it really was not worth doing for anyone who participated in raids. I guess this is one of those things that benefit the mass vs the few so its probably in the best interest of majority of players.

Return of Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman

The Gurubashi Tribe Persists

Originally a 20-player dungeon released in patch 1.7, Zul’Gurub will once again open its gates, featuring updated lore, all-new encounters, achievements, and improved loot! Zul’Gurub is now a level-85 five-player Heroic difficulty dungeon. To provide a new tier above the current Cataclysm dungeons, players can expect to find epic-quality item level 353 loot. The minimum average item level to enter this Heroic dungeon is 346.

The Return of Zul’Aman

Ever a player favorite, the level-70 ten-player dungeon of Zul’Aman is being reintroduced as a level-85 Heroic five-player dungeon. Zul’Aman will join Zul’Gurub in a new Dungeon Finder tier of Heroic dungeons, providing epic-quality item level 353 loot. The minimum average item level to enter this Heroic dungeon is also 346. While Zul’Aman will be more of a throwback to the original dungeon featuring many of the same encounters, players can expect to find some updated gameplay mechanics, as well as new environment textures and lighting.

With the Zuls returning, you may be wondering about the unique mounts that were once contained therein. We’re pleased to announce that new versions of the rare raptor, tiger, and bear mounts will be available, while the old versions of these mounts will remain unique to those who already have them. We’ll reveal more about how these updated mounts can be obtained in the future.

The new loot table for ZG/ZA can be found here. My beef with this is why keep reintroducing old mounts (Raptor/Tiger/Warbear) when you say they are removed for good. People spent lots of time farming these mounts putting time in to make sure they obtained it before it was removed. I’m not trying to be elitist, in fact if that is the policy is to remove it all then so be it but keep it consistent. Black/Plagued proto drakes were removed very early and if you’re going to bring back the tiger/raptor AND the warbear, then I for one would love to get my Black Proto Drake. Even if it is a rehashed colour scheme, I completed Glory of the Raider (25 Player) so I don’t see any reason why it can be reintroduced. Lets keep the theme consistent one way or another.

Quality of Play Improvements

Interestingly enough, there are quite a few improvements to gameplay that will affect everyone. They’re really not game breaking but they do make things a lot easier for players in general.

  • All major cities will now have every type of profession trainer and their associated trade supply vendors.
  • The Dungeon Finder now attempts to avoid putting damage-dealing classes with the same armor type in a group. (Source)
  • It is an issue we’re aware of and having been looking into. We’ve applied a number of hotfixes to phased gathering nodes since the release of Cataclysm, but this one is still there and is certainly a bugger. (Source)
  • Daily dungeons will be changed to weekly dungeon caps (Source)
  • Updated old school TBC maps (Source, Source)
  • All trade goods available for purchase with Honor or Justice Points from the associated commodities vendors have had their prices reduced by 50%.
  • Maelstrom Crystals are now available for purchase with Honor or Justice Points from the associated commodities vendors.

Maelstrom prices will be bottoming up in the very near future. If you have some spare ones, its a good time to sell now before you miss out on the oppourtunity.

I think the best improvement of all is the change from Daily to Weekly dungeons. That gives players a lot more flexibility to run multiple dungeons a day instead of being forced to logon everyday to try and cap your Valor Points. Having to logon everyday to try and cap VP/Guild XP is a ridiculous concept which I covered previously in a prior post, which leads to the next update…

Guild Experience Changes

  • The amount of guild experience rewarded for rated Battleground guild group wins has been dramatically increased.
  • Players are now rewarded guild experience for Honorable Kills in the field.
  • Players are now rewarded guild experience for Battleground wins in Battleground brackets up to level 80.
  • Arena teams are now awarded guild experience for wins. The entire team must be members of the same guild to earn this experience.

Finally, new ways to cap guild XP.  But in typical Blizzard fashion, too little too late. If you are a small raiding guild you’re probably only logging in to raid twice a week at this point which means you cap 2 days of the week. Whereas large monstrosity guilds that have 500 players that are full of people that don’t interact with each other but run dungeons nonstop for their mains/alts are capping on a daily basis. The whole concept of Guild Perks/Leveling was to bring your guild closer, yet all its done is make it more beneficial to be in the biggest guild you can possibly find with little regard for who’s in it.

Guild Transfer & Guild Rename Services Coming

We want to give everyone an early heads-up regarding our plan to implement a guild relocation service for World of Warcraft. The idea is for a guild leader to be able to transfer a guild to another realm. The guild structure remains intact, including the guild leader, guild bank, ranks, and guild name (depending on availability).

Guild members who decide to relocate with their guild may initiate their own paid character transfer. Upon a successful transfer they will automatically be part of the guild when they first log into the new realm. Their guild rank and guild reputation will be intact.

Guild leaders who do not want a change of scenery may also choose to pick a new guild name using another new service. These services are in development and we will be providing additional details at a future point in time.

As with all of the features and services we offer, we intend to incorporate the guild relocation service in a way that will not disrupt the game play experience. Please note that this feature will require extensive internal testing, so you may see bits and pieces of the service appear on the public test realms. We’ll announce further details at http://www.WorldofWarcraft.com.

This is a very very interesting concept and probably a very worthwhile concept. With the changes to how guilds work (perks, bonuses) it would be god awful to transfer a server and have to regrind everything which essentially takes months if not a whole year. For us being on such a small low pop server there is always a thought in the back of our minds to consider a server transfer and this is definitely a worthwhile consideration. Looking forward to seeing what the cost is as well as what sort of restrictions (if any) there will be.

20th Anniversary for Blizzard

I don’t know about most of you readers out there but the reason why I started playing WOW was because of Blizzard and its history of amazing games. I had never even tried an MMO before so it really speaks to my firm trust in Blizzards ability to churn out good games. WC1, WC2, WC3, SC1, D1, D2, WOW, SC2 I own them all and I’ve enjoyed all of them. Granted, none of them have held my interest as long as WOW but I am definitely looking forward to D3 and their next gen MMO whenever they are ready.

Topics of the Week #12

Hello Kitty Fans,

Sitting down to write a quick post as now is prob a good a time as any to reflect back on Cataclysm so far. We’ve just finished the first tier (more on that below) of content and things couldn’t be peachier. I know some people hate the newer (wotlk onwards) expansions but personally I love em. They may be simpler and dumbed down but they really do work for me and allow me to balance my IRL with WOW. I’ve also just finished maxing all my Cataclysm reputations so its’ probably time to start working on some new achievements, they haven’t gotten much love recently. On with the post!

Cataclysm Quirks

After the past few months of Cata I’ve definitely noticed some oddities during my time in game.

  • I didn’t discover the entrance to Lost City of Tol’Vir even though I was inside the instance (go figure)
  • Falling to my death through holes in the floor at the entrance to Bastion of Twilight (seriously, just run around the edges of the beginning of the instance)
  • Phasing herbs in Twilight Highlands, nothing is better than flying down to pick something and having it disappear
  • While I understand smaller loot tables can result in repetition of loot (aka 2x the same drop in 25m), whats up with 3x drops?
  • If you’re in a random dungeon and you are the last person in the instance (and the group disbands) you can’t teleport out

Cataclysm Tips

Here are just a few general tips for the folks out there, in case you haven’t thought of it

  • Always remember to do Wintergrasp and WG dailies, yes it is outdated content but the honor is still good and there is never a queue.
  • If you’re a herbalist, always remember to herb TB while its in progress. Yup, people may hate you but its free Whiptail with little to no competition (removed in 4.06, do it while you can!)
  • Remember that guild rewards require guild reputation, if you can max it out every week. Caps are dependent on your guild level, more information here.
  • This may not apply to all servers but many people are still leveling professions, don’t forget to check the auction hall for cheap enchanted scrolls, you may find its cheaper than actual mats on the auction hall.

1st Tier of Content Complete

Last week Daybreak completed the first tier of content finishing off Nefarian and reaching 12/12.  While I wasn’t in on the kill and our first kill was in 10m, we went back in this week and killed Nef in 25m.

Overall from an experience point of view the content for Catacylsm so far has been pretty enjoyable. The fights had more unique mechanics than rehashed ones, and more importantly, the amount of trash per instance was reasonable. Also we’ve made use of the shared lockout almost every week where we’ve gone in to start as a 25M raid, cleared what we can and converted down to a 10M raid to continue progressing and learning. This has significantly helped our progression in 25M the week after resulting in pretty quick kills of new bosses. Heroic progression begins this upcoming week!

300,000 Hits

Feral Aggression just ticked over 300,000 hits! As always, thanks to all of you who appreciate what I have to say and special thanks to all those folks out there who provide input (whether you agree or disagree) in the comments section.

Insane in the Membrane Update

As previously posted yesterday, the Insane in the Membrane FOS has been updated so that Shen’dralar is no longer required. This undoubtedly has caused a lot of rejoicing by some and a lot of negative blacklash from others. As I said yesterday, its best to leave big time consuming, huge commitment FOS type activities alone so that the proverbial shit does not hit the fan. Hope that there were some serious lessons learned from this experience so it doesn’t happen again in the future.

With two new playable races just on the horizon, many players have been asking when they’ll be able to convert their existing characters into goblins or worgen. Paid faction and race changes will be available immediately once Cataclysm is released. Realm First achievements for leveling any class to 85 will be available in Cataclysm. However there will be no Realm First achievements associated with leveling characters of a specific race. There will be a slight change to the way paid services work for goblins and worgen. Goblin and worgen characters wishing to change race or faction cannot be in Lost Isles or Gilneas; they must be elsewhere to initiate the process. There are no restrictions on race/faction change to goblin or worgen.
Extremely interesting that they are allowing race changes that quickly. I’m giving this some serious thought to race change (most likely after the grind to 85). Its been 6 years as a Night Elf, so a change would be nice.

Updated Rez Combat Design

The design for combat resurrection effects has changed a good deal for Cataclysm, and we want to make sure players are clear on how spells like Rebirth and Create Soulstone now function. Rebirth has a 10-minute cooldown and Create Soulstone has a 15-minute cooldown. On raid boss encounters, you can only use one of these combat resurrection spells (so one Rebirth or one Soulstone) per attempt for 10-player raids. For 25-player raids you can use three forms of combat resurrection per raid boss attempt (so three of any combination of Rebirth and Soulstone). The count is incremented as soon as a player accepts a resurrection, so one can always choose not to accept if he or she wants someone else to get the resurrection instead. There is no equivalent of the Sated debuff (which tracks Bloodlust/Heroism usage), but you will get an error message if you try to resurrect too many players, and we might add tracking to our raid interface if there is demand for it. Outside of raid content, you can use as many battle resurrections as you have available.

For those of you currently participating in the World of Warcraft: Cataclysm beta test, please note that this functionality may not be fully implemented as of yet. If you notice combat resurrections are not currently functioning as explained here, this is just a heads-up about the updated design intent behind them.

Interesting design decision change by Blizzard. Personally I don’t think this is a huge change as most guilds dont run with too many druids in the first place. For example, in my 10 man for WOTLK we only had 1 druid so that meant 1 rez anyways. However in 25 mans we did have 5-7 druids depending on the night which did result in a bunch of rez chains. So in that sense I guess this will have some effect, but then again, if people don’t screw up and die then that makes a Battle Rez irrelevant.

Deathy Blizzcon 2010

Red Shirt Guy

If you were able to attend Blizzcon this year or watched the stream, you undoubtedly heard about “Red Shirt Guy”

For those who are not aware, this guy asked a question during the Lore Q&A session with Alex Afrasiabi & Chris Metzen. The question was more of a statement pointing out that their lore was incorrect as one of the Wildhammer characters was not in game which was incorrect based on what was said in the WoW books. Naturally, both Alex/Chris were stumped which made this guy an instant celebrity at Blizzcon. Blizzard not only fixed their error but also honored “Red Shirt Guy” by creating an NPC beside Falstad Wildhammer called Wildhammer Fact Checker.

You really gotta tip your cap to Blizzard, not only are they able to admit they are wrong, but they reward and honor people who play their game. Good on you Blizz!

Feral Buffs

As announced last week, Feral got some much needed love to rebalance back to a competitive level. Just goes to show, patience is a virtue kitty fans.

Here are the hotfixes to the live servers.

  • Maim now deals 155% weapon damage, up from 100%.
  • Rip base bleed damage has been increased by 50%.
  • Shred now deals 350% damage, up from 225%. Additional damage increased by 55%.
  • Swipe now deals 335% weapon damage, up from 215%.
  • Ravage now causes 850% damage, up from 550%. Additional damage increased by 55%
  • Claw now causes 155% damage, up from 100%. Additional damage increased by 55%.
  • Ferocious Bite base additional damage increased by 55%.
  • Rake bleed damage has been increased by 55%.
  • Fury Swipes now deals 310% weapon damage, up from 200%.

Even cooler is the fact that kitties got even more love on the Beta!

Arena Season 8 Complete

3 months ago I ventured into an aspect of the game that I have generally avoided. Since then and 370 achievement points later, I’ve finished the season with a Duelist title and with Arena Master complete. Do I have aspirations of reaching Gladiator rank? Not really, nor do I have the skill to do so probably. Will I continue PVP’ing? Most definitely, looking forward to Season 9 and maybe just maybe as feral pvp!


Mimi Heads, Invincible & More removed in 4.03

In case you missed it, many rare mounts are being removed completely or having their drop rates changed to essentially make them gone. So the speculation is gone and Blizzard has given advance notice on the removal dates, be forwarned. If you haven’t been farming now is the time to start. While Mimiron Head’s and Invincible are still in the game they really are not farmable anymore at a 1% (or less) drop rate. We are currently at 12 Mimiron Head’s as a guild and with Cata only 7 weeks away, I assume 4.03 will drop before that. So, it looks like we’ll be getting to 17-19 heads which isn’t bad. Looking forward to our army of mimi head’s in IF in Dec.

Personally with the announcement of TOGC mounts being removed I think it’s time to pay TOGC25 a visit again.

Swift Zulian Tiger
Zul’Gurub is changing from a raid to a leveling zone in 4.0.3, and this mount will no longer be obtainable.

Swift Razzashi Raptor
This mount will also no longer be obtainable after the change to Zul’Gurub.

Razzashi Hatchling
With the change to Zul’Gurub this non-combat pet will no longer be obtainable.

Tome of Polymorph: Turtle Mage
This tome will continue to be available through other means.

Crusader’s White/Black Warhorse and Swift Alliance Steed/Swift Horde Wolf
As the attempt-based tribute system is being removed from Heroic Trial of the Crusader, the Argent Crusade Tribute Chest will no longer spawn, and these mounts will no longer be obtainable

Reins of the Blue Drake
This mount will once again be available from defeating 10-player Malygos without needing to use the Dungeon Finder. The Reins of the Azure Drake will only be available on 25-player Malygos.

Mimiron’s Head
This mount will change to be a very low drop chance when defeating 25-player Yogg’Saron with no Keepers assisting you

Invincible
This mount will change to be a very low drop chance when defeating Heroic 25-player Lich King

Although we have no current plans to introduce new ways to obtain the Zul’Gurub mounts, pets, and the tribute mounts, they may return should we find a place where they fit in the future.

Many Whelps! Handle It!

For those achievement nerds out there in case you did not know, with the recent graphics changes this is actually possible to achieve again. We as a guild seem to have unstable connections/crappy computers and whenever we tried this (on several occasions) we were unable to field a raid group that was able to stay online. We had essentially given up on this but we went back again last night to give it a try and nobody DC’ed. Huzzah! Too bad we didnt pull enough whelps during the liftoff so we’ll be going back to try again next week.

So in case you’re in the same boat I am, now’s the time to go and give it a shot!

Veteran of the Shifting Sands

For those of you who played back in Vanilla, you’ll recall the Scepter questline to open the Ahn’Qiraj gates. It was a pretty interesting idea that forced both factions to work together to complete the material resource farming to open the gates as fast as possible. At the end of the day, one person was given the honor of banging the gong which open the gates and provided two unique rewards in the title Scarab Lord as well as the only bug mount usable outside of AQ  in the Black Qiraji Resonating Crystal

Other folks who were rushing the scepter for their respective guilds generally got screwed out of title/mount and were not happy campers. Since then a lot of people have picked up the questline and completed it for fun including yours truly. There was a period when people could transfer to the server and bang the gong to get the title/mounts but that window of oppourtunity has closed. Since then there has been a lot of petitioning on the Achievement Forums to give some sort of reward to those who spent the time to complete the questline. Apparently the gold cap has been changed to 1,000,000g. Looks like I won’t be hitting that one (ever).



Topics of the Week #9

My oh my kitty fans, so many timbits of information, so many things to cover, lets get to it!

Badge/Honor Conversion

Blizzard announced their conversion system for badges & honor into justice & honor points. MMO-Champion being awesome put together a calculator to identify what you will have come 4.01. I thought I’d share with you what I’m looking at come 4.01.

I’ll probably start looking to cap my JP before 4.01 which will require an additional 1515 JP. At a conversation rate of 1 JP per 2.75 Conquest/Frost badges, looks like I need 551 badges. Also, I’m way over the Honor Cap of 4000 points (with 15858) so that’ll be converted into 4150.30 gold (11585 *.35s per). Meaning I’ll be looking at a total of 5803g to add to my coffers (neat!).

Guild Chat to Armory Premium Service

Just announced today, Blizz will be implementing guild chat to Mobile Armory. This will be a supplement to the existing Mobile Armory premium service which allows a user to use the AH remotely. So good on Blizzard for further improving the current premium service vs making up an excuse to say this is a separate function which would require a separate fee. While the remote AH does not “remotely” (har har) interest me, having the ability to chat with guild remotely is kind of a neat feature. At $2.99 its not that expensive ($35.88 a yr) and who hasn’t been in a situation where they wanted to pop on and communicate with a guildie about something when you’re out. Then again, $35.88 will buy a lot of diapers…

Realm Firsts

A really interesting timbit that was announced was the shared FOS for realm firsts.

The interesting thing is, we all know that 10 mans have traditionally been easier than 25 man, and while Blizzard has stated that they want to keep 10 and 25 difficulty equal in Cataclysm it should still mean that 10 man will be easier. Why? Because its easier to rely on 9 people vs 24 other people. How many of you have felt that “oh we could have killed that boss” if it werent for the fact that person A is inconsistent or person B stinks and if we had X more dps it would be dead. Ya all those arguments. Its much easier to field a competent 10 man group vs a 25 man group.

What does that mean to the big picture? It’ll really be interesting to see how guilds react to this, specifically the big top end guilds that are loaded with 25-30 talented people which could now theoretically drop down to 3 x 10 man groups and have a better shot at a realm first. Drama Inc?

T11 Bonus & Graphics

Amazingly enough, T11 has already been mined out so here is what it looks like (eck) and it’s bonuses:

First off, 2pc awesome as usual, who doesn’t like more passive dps boost for the cost of nothing? As for 4pc, it looks somewhat sketchy if you ask me. Why? Mangle has a duration of 1 min and generally speaking, kitties have no reason to mangle more than once a minute. Yet here we have a 4pc which is telling us to mangle 3 times every 30s or 6 times a minute to get 3% more AP? Strange to say the least. Then again I haven’t been on Beta yet (where’s the key Blizz!) so perhaps I’m just missing something (any beta-er’s gimme a shout in the comments if you know something I don’t). Also, neat that there are 3 very distinct colour schemes, perhaps someone was reading.

Shapeshifting – Worgen vs Druids

Running Wild is indeed the new racial “mount” for worgen. Functionally the ability works exactly like a mount. This does mean the worgen are not bringing faction mounts to the table which other Alliance races can access. This is also of course very different from the original Plainsrunning implemented for taurens. We have no plans to try and bring that ability back in any form.

Ultimately, we feel Running Wild fits very well with the nature of the worgen race. Rather than getting a physical mount, they get down and sprint on all fours. When you’re playing a worgen, it just feels awesome.

Sweet! Looking at the Wowhead Beta site it shows Running Wild as having a 1.5s cast timer like all other mounts. But this popped another question into my head which is, with flying mounts now being usable everywhere come Cataclysm, does that mean that flight form works for an instant ground mount? (Can anyone on the Beta PTR confirm that?)

Patch Notes (12984 Code Name Puppy)

More druid ability changes, but nothing too critical to speak of:

To generalize (summarize), base mana cost of shapeshifting has been reduced which is a big bonus for Arenas but not really important elsewhere. Skull Bash range reduction isn’t cool but 13 and 18 yards which really does not matter from a PVE or PVP perspective since you generally should be up the mob/person’s ass anyways. Also apparently I missed it but Nom Nom Nom was already named and renamed again, curse you Blizzard!

PVP Update

After about a month of struggling in 2’s and essentially being stuck between 2100-2150 I decided to make a change and switch my spec to the more typical 2’s spec of 21/0/50. One Word, WOW it made such a world of a difference. The added pressure that IS provides made 2’s so much easier and put a lot of compositions we had difficulty with into a much more manageable means. You might ask why I didn’t I respec earlier and the simple answer is “I was too lazy to” Yes, a very contradicting answer considering how much time I spent breaking the 2200 barrier. However with that, Just the Two uf Us: 2200 was achieved and now only one bracket left to go. With the announcement of the arena season ending with 4.01 the pressure is on to try and finish before I lose the opportunity to. With the advent of revamped talent trees and all kinds of other changes that will inevitable break many things, its best I finish it before 4.01 happens.

Topics of the Week #8

Its Monday, what better way to start the week than another Topics of the Week post.

We Are Legendary!

Last week guild achievements were announced and one of them was the neat achievements is We Are Legendary which has the requirement of obtaining every legendary in game (minus Atiesh). On first glance, this is kind of cool since most serious guilds already have almost all or all of the legendaries. In the case of my guild, we have everything but Warglaives of Azzinoth and Thori’dal, the Star’s Fury. Glaives we “technically” had but we gave MH to one person who quit and subsequently the OH dropped which we gave to another person who has quit as well. Thori’dal we never got because well, we never finished Funwell. It also seems that there will be some neat rewards for said achievements such as the Dark Phoenix, which is a mount similar to a druid’s Flight Form which allows you to transform into a Dark Phoenix and also carry one additional person.

This of course then turned into a big shitfest when Blizzard announced the following:

The guild rewards you guys are seeing in game are not hooked up yet. Guild rewards have 3 requirements that must be be met before you can use them. First and foremost, they must be unlocked via a guild achievement. Let’s just say, that for example, you need to complete the new guild achievement “We are Legendary” in order to unlock the Dark Phoenix. That achievement requires the guild to gain access to all 6 legendary weapons currently available in the game. (note that all guild achievements start on Cataclysm launch, so anything you have now will not matter, it must be done with your guild after launch)

Not really a big fan of the flip flopping of decisions. I’m not one to complain so whatever Blizz decides is what goes. I just wish they would stick with it. With this decision though, it will be interesting to see how they make this retroactive because I can see why they would want to make it post Cata only as it would be a lot easier to determine if a legendary qualifies or not. I mean how do you determine what was earned in guild pre Cata anyways? Couldn’t anyone with a legendary just join the guild to get credit? GL to Blizz on figuring this one out.

This doesn’t really change the way we (Daybreak) do things, as we farm old content for fun anyways. Looking at some of our guild statistics, it looks like we’ve done Black Temple 14 times and Sunwell 4 times during this expansion. No luck on said legendaries though 😦


Collector’s Pet & Blizzcon Item Announced!

Have been announced for the Cataclysm Collector’s Edition as well as Blizzcon 2010. As per tradition, the new collector’s pet will be another whelp in Lil’ Deathwing. The Blizzcon item this year will also be a pet. Not really as cool as last year’s Big Blizzard Bear which for those who forgot/didn’t know was a ground mount that was account bound so that any of your toons could use. Also same as last year, you can buy a live stream of Blizzcon (for those who are on the other side of the country like me) so if you were planning to watch anyways, its a nice gift regardless.


Dual Specialization Costs Decreased

Dual Specs have been decreased from 1000g down to 100g. I’m going to make the assumption that every main already has this already but its great for alts whom I refuse to invest in.


Feral Tree Change Updates

Bunch of pretty neat bear changes in this most recent beta update, but I’ll let others discuss that. Whats relevant to us kitties are:

  • Furor is now a Feral Tier 1 talent – Gives you 33/66/100% chance to gain 10 Rage when you shapeshift into Bear Form, and you keep up to 33/66/100 of your Energy when you shapeshift into Cat Form, and increases your total Intellect by 2/4/6%.
  • Heart of the Wild moved to Tier 1 restoration.

Why is this relevant? Because there’s bloat in the feral tree by removing Heart of the Wild. But most importantly, Furor being pushed down to Tier 1 makes sense because now we don’t need to take Predatory Strikes which as I’ve stated many times, is clearly a PVP talent. So in summary, Tier 1 of the Feral Tree finally makes sense in 2/2 Feral Swiftness and 3/3 Furor


Shred Position Requirements

The second timbit of interesting information was a discussion on Shred’s positional requirement:

Cudos to you Blizzard, please don’t bend over backwards to those who can’t play feral as is. If you cant manage the position requirement then don’t play the class. Feral is already being simplified in a bunch of different ways, there’s really no reason to remove the shred position requirement. Don’t forget, hitting a boss from in front changes your hit/exp requirements, it doesn’t automatically mean boosted dps.

When we make an entire instance full of Kologarns then it will be a problem. I think you’ll be fine if you can’t manage maximum dps on every raid boss. I think the game loses far more when we can’t make original bosses with unusual mechanics that we gain by having every dps spec do about the same relative damage on every fight.

Don’t really agree with this one, that’s like making a fight where AOE damage is completely nullified which would muck up a lot of classes such as DK’s, Warriors & Ret Pallies.

Shred position prereq
PvP is rarely ever decided by someone’s long term sustained dps though. It has a lot more to do with making the right decision at the right time.

In PvE there is no question that Shred is superior, but in most fights you can Shred. Those few fights where you can’t Shred aren’t ubiquitous enough to feel like a big deal. If you just find it too difficult to always get behind a creature to be able to Shred, then I’m not sure what to tell you. We don’t think this problem is so widespread that Ferals are at a huge disadvantage overall. We agree that Feral has a really high skill cap in Lich King, but that’s more do to the John Madden nature of the rotation than to Shred’s positional requirement, and it’s also something we’ve taken steps to improve in Cataclysm.

Many specs can’t perform their highest 100% potential when mobs are moving or when they have to step out of the fire, but we aren’t about to change those in order to make things easier on the player. I think raiding is plenty easy to be honest, unless you’re talking about the more challenging heroic-mode encounters in which, yeah, we’re asking you to step it up a little.

I highlighted the most interesting part of the discussion. Overall thoughts are in line with what I think. John Fucking Madden lives on.


PVP Update

This week my 5’s team broke 2300 and I purchased myself a fancy Wrathful Gladiator’s Tabard. Next week comes Wrathful Gladiator’s Blade of Celerity and last but not least, Wrathful Gladiator’s Kodohide Robes. So 2 more weeks and I’ll be done my resto set. The next question is, what to get next? Seeing as I am a kitty druid and this is a kitty blog it would make sense to make a feral set. But I wont lie in that I’m kind of interested in tinkering with Boomkin PVP. It really comes down to what sort of partners are available to me, so only time will tell.

Not everything is peaches and cream in pvp though, this is the 2nd week in a row that I’ve been stuck at 2150ish in 2’s and it doesn’t really seem like we are making much progress. Nothing we can do but play more and learn more as we go.


Mimiron Head Farming

7 weeks and 5 Mimiron Head’s! We’re still going strong, looking forward to Ironforge being covered in these bad boys come Cataclysm. My Valanyr is coming around too with 19/30 fragments complete. Looking at probably another 3 weeks and I should be the proud owner of Legendary #2. Anyone else farming Mimi Heads? Tell me how you’re doing!

Topics of the Week #7

Damn, things are slow around the blogosphere and wow in general. Its hard to keep people motivated but doing fun things definitely help. In case you’re wondering, we’re up to 4 Mimi Heads total with more to come! Some interesting things to talk about this week, lets get started…

PVP Update

Good News Everyone! As Professor Putricide would say, we broke 2200 in 5v5 this week. Had a good week of 5’s going 12-0 and I now have the rating to get the 2.2k weapon. All that’s left is to wait to get enough points to do purchase. Only on more tier of reward is available in the 2300 Wrathful Gladiator’s Tabard. Nice thing to have, but it definitely won’t replace Tabard of the Lightbringer 😉 2’s on the other hand was good but not as successful. We broke 2000 last week and this week we went 21-9 which on paper looks pretty good but overall we only went up 23 points. But as I’ve been told that is the nature of 2’s. Your comp may be extremely efficient against some but extremely handicapped against others. Its just not as balanced as it used to be which I guess is probably the reason why 2’s has been removed from arena title consideration. Looking forward to stopping 2’s once/if I get to 2200.

Furor, Master Shapeshifter and Savage Roar Changes (Source)

The latest feral kitty changes, note there are a bunch of bear changes too but this ain’t no bear blog! For a full list of bear changes as well, check the source link.

  • Savage Roar now increases auto attack damage done by 50% instead of physical damage done by 30%.
  • Master Shapeshifter bonus increased from 2% to 4% for all forms.
  • Furor now gives you a 33/66/100% (up from 20/40/60%) chance to gain 10 rage when you shapeshift into Bear form and you keep up to 33/66/100 (up from 20/40/60) of your Energy when you shapeshift into Cat Form. Now increases your total Intellect by 2/4/6%. (Old – Only increased in Moonkin form)

While Master Shapeshifter is not a big change (just a stat bump), Savage Roar and Furor are both pretty interesting. Furor first of all, is a change that has been forthcoming for a while. Having only 80% (3/5 points in talent) of your energy persist through a shift is kinda dumb (based on the current talent specs) and really it should have been 100% to begin with. Good on Blizz for recognizing the stupidity of the current situation and making the adjustment.

The real interesting change is Savage Roar. Once again we see a further push towards increased auto attack (white) damage. Couple this along with Fury Swipes, we’ve got some serious white damage boosts. The thing to note here is, Savage Roar now no longer produces any benefits to our yellow damage abilities such as Rip, Rake, Mangle, Ferocious Bite & more. So this is actually a change in the mechanics of feral druid dps. No longer is there that requirement to time your dots to be reapplied before a SR falls off. Seems to me as somewhat of a dumbing down of the feral tree.  Another interesting thought to think about is how will this change the priority of abilities in a dps rotation. With SR no longer affecting yellows, should its priority be well after applying dots and ensuring dots are kept up? This looks like to me as further support that haste will become the primary stat for feral druids in Cataclysm.

Cool, if anyone remembers trying to farm Idol of the Emerald Queen from Shadow Labs they know how bad the system was back in TBC. Blizz did make some headway into the problem by changing the idols into badge items so that you wouldn’t be stuck farming a dungeon or raid boss nonstop to get a mandatory item. With greater flexibility amongst all the classes to use Idols this should make for some interesting combination of stats and hopefully better idols in general.

There are some images of new relics with raw stats, secondary stats & gem slots which are kind of neat but they just look off. The thing to take away from the image is that Cata relics will have stats and gem slots just like guns/bows and wands.

310% Mount Speed for Everyone (Source)

I’m pretty sure Blizz already stated this was going to happen but in case you didn’t’ know or haven’t heard here it is. 310% Mount Flying Speed will be available for purchase in Cataclysm for the low low price of 5000 gold. If you already have 310% mount speed then you will not have to pay for it once Cata hits, and no there is no faster mount speed past 310% (as far as I know). There are a few ways to obtain 310 right now, you can either do it via PVP (get Gladiator) or via PVE (via raiding drakes, world event drakes or rare drops like Mimiron’s Head). The easiest/fastest way to obtain it is to probably go after the Ulduar 10 proto drake (Glory of the Ulduar Raider)
